Sizing & Selection of Turbine in Palm Oil Mills

  1. Electrical power required is usually between 18-20 kW/ton of FFB. Process demands for sterilisation is between 500 - 700 kg/ton of FFB of steam.
  2. This need to be consider :- 1. Fuel analysis 2. Boiler sizing
  3. Fuel Analysis :- by product of fuits is fibre and shells. The breakdown as below :- 12% fibre -calorific value -2,677 kcal/kg and 7% shells - calorific value 4,159 kcal/kg.
  4. A 30 mt/hr mill will produce 3.6 tons fibre and 2.1 tons of shells.
  5. Gross heat value available from fibres and shells : - 2,677 kcal/kg x 4.1868 kJ/kcal x 3,600 kg/hr)/1000 kJ/MJ = 40,349 MJ/hr + shells (36,567 MJ/hr) = 76,916 MJ/hr.
  6. If 500 kg of steam is needed for process per ton of FFB, therefore 30 Mt/hr FFB :- 30 ton/hr x 500 kg/ton of steam = 15,000 kg/hr of steam is needed for process.
  7. Inlet steam (20 Bar abs) enthalpy is 2,799 kJ/kg.
