๐ŸŒด Hana’s Journey as a Palm Oil Mill Manager

Hana never imagined that the sound of boilers hissing, turbines spinning, and the rhythmic hum of machinery would become the soundtrack of her life. When she first stepped into the palm oil mill as a young engineer, the massive sterilizers and conveyor belts seemed intimidating. Yet, she told herself, “Every machine has a rhythm, and every challenge has a lesson.”

Years later, as a Mill Manager, Hana’s days were no longer just about machines. They were about people, processes, and purpose. She learned that in a palm oil mill, leadership is tested not only in the control room but also in the hearts of those who work alongside you.

When production slowed due to an unexpected breakdown, Hana stood with her team, covered in grease and sweat, until the line restarted. She discovered that true authority came not from her title but from her willingness to share the struggle.

Managing the mill also taught her balance. Every day was a puzzle: ensuring Oil Extraction Rate (OER) was optimized, maintaining safety compliance, keeping costs in check, and still protecting the environment through sustainable practices. She realized that leadership in the mill was about weaving efficiency with empathy, productivity with sustainability, and progress with responsibility.

One evening, as she watched the sun set behind the plantation, Hana reflected:
“This mill is more than machinery and numbers. It is about feeding communities, creating livelihoods, and safeguarding the future. My role is not just to manage, but to nurture — both the mill and the people within it.”

And that’s when she truly understood the essence of being a mill manager: transforming challenges into opportunities, and operations into legacies.
